Jolyon Burnett, CEO of Australian Macadamia Society (AMS) Will Attend and Host the 8th International Macadamia Symposium in China
“So far, the 8th international macadamia symposium will be the largest macadamia symposium with the largest number of participants and the largest number of speakers unprecedentedly! I look forward to it.” Jolyon Burnett, CEO of AMS said to Chen Yuxiu, President of Yunnan Macadamia Society and other leaders at the video conference on April 5th.
Jolyon Burnett and Chen Yuxiu exchanged views on the preparatory work progress of the 8th International Macadamia Symposium on the conference. Although there are 192 days left for the event, both of them are confident that it will be held smoothly.
As one of the organizers of this Symposium, Yunnan Macadamia Society has made remarkable achievements in promoting the development of macadamia industry in China in recent years. Statistics from the Yunnan Institute of Tropical Crop Science shows that the planting area of macadamia has grown to 2.4 million mu in China, accounting for 61.05% of the total macadamia planting area in the world.
With an increase of 300,000 mu per year, the planting area in China will account for 71.71% of the total new planting area in the world. China already has the core force to promote the sustainable development of the international macadamia industry. At the same time, in light of the global consumption level of macadamia from 2011 to 2015, the annual per-capita consumption in Chinese market is only 3g, far below the international average consumption of 16 g/year.
It means that macadamia has immeasurable growth potential in Chinese market in the future.
Australia is an important component of the international macadamia market. In 2016, with its local production accounting for 31% of global production, Australia has been the country with the largest macadamia production in the world.
Having learned about the progress of the 8th International Macadamia Symposium in China, Jolyon Burnett expressed his confidence and anticipation for the upcoming industry symposium in China. On the one hand, he, as a co-organizer of the Symposium, will be fully involved in its agenda; On the other hand, this event will bring together a number of excellent experts in breeding, planting, scientific research, management, marketing and sales. The sharing of scientific data and the exchange of cultivation management experience will certainly benefit more industry practitioners and consumers.
Jolyon Burnett pointed out: “According to the global nut market pattern, the scale of macadamia industry is relatively small compared to other nuts industries, such as walnuts and almonds. It is hoped that this Symposium will establish more far-reaching cooperation with all parties in market promotion and data sharing in a bid to increase its share in international tree nut market from 2% to 5%.
