"It's amazing! I believe when colleagues of international macadamia arrive, they will be very interested in mountain planting techniques in Yunnan.'' Today, Jolyon Burnett, CEO of Australian Macadamia Society, said after looking at the rows of neatly trees on the hillside when his visit to Lincang for the preparation of the Eighth International Macadamia Symposium.

The excitement of Burnett is reasonable. In Yunnan, China affected by geographical environment, the macadamia planting areas are mainly concentrated in high mountains in contrast with other major planting areas in the world. The mechanized operations cannot be carried out here and the management and collection could only be implemented by hand. But even so, scientists and technicians in Yunnan have summed up a series of cultivation techniques of mountain cultivation including water conservation, variety collocation, trees management, fertilization and water management, high-efficiency harvesting and pest control based on the digestion and absorption of advanced management experience of macadamia orchards abroad.

The areas of macadamia planting in Yunnan are at the top of the world and the quality is excellent. Hence, the cultivation techniques in mountainous areas are the bright points of this Symposium, which will be shown to the world macadamia colleagues in all directions.

During the Symposium, Ms. Chen Yuxiu, President of Yunnan Macadamia Industry Society, will chair the discussion of High Altitude Production session. Li Xiaobo, the director of agricultural technology of Yunnan Macadamia Industry Development Co., Ltd., the leading enterprise of Yunnan macadamia industry, will share the theme of "high altitude steep slope planting and after-processing treatment"; Lu Sen, director of the Zhongyuan (Beijing) Soil Improvement Technology Research Institute, will share ''High quality and efficient cultivation system for ecological cultivation of Macadamia mountains in China''; Xiong Zhiye, the dean of the school of light industry and food engineering, Southwest Forestry University, will put forward his own views on the theme '' Development and utilization of Macadamia with Yunnan characteristics''.

Meanwhile, through the review on the Shifoshan Mountain macadamia planting base in Xinfu Town, Yunxian County; Dazongqing macadamia planting area of Daxueshan Mountain in Yongde County; Yunnan Macadamia No.1 manor in Nansan Town, Zhenkang County and so on, participants will have a comprehensive and close understanding of the macadamia planting situation in Yunnan.
